Job search safety

Most employers on Mappi are exactly who they say they are — we verify companies and require listings to be confirmed regularly. But job scams exist everywhere online, and knowing the warning signs is your best protection.

Red flags to watch for

  • Any request for money — "training fees", "equipment deposits", "background check costs". Legitimate employers never charge you to work.
  • Requests for banking details, government ID numbers or copies of documents before you have signed anything or met anyone.
  • Pay that is far above market rate for very little work, or a job offer without any interview.
  • Pressure to continue the conversation off-platform immediately, especially via personal messaging apps.
  • Cheque-cashing or money-transfer "tasks" — these are money-laundering schemes that can make you legally liable.

How Mappi protects you

Look for the verified badge on company profiles, and check the employer's response rate and history. Keep conversations in Mappi's messaging so there is a record. Listings that are no longer confirmed by the employer expire automatically.

If something feels wrong

Trust your instinct and report the listing using the report button — reports are reviewed by our team, and repeat offenders are removed. If you have already sent money or personal documents to a suspected scammer, contact your bank immediately and report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
